KNU(Korea National University) 10, Promoting ‘Digital Union Education’
By signing an agreement for credit exchange, KNU 10, which have been seeking to implement and expand credit exchange in order to establish a shared growth-type national university alliance system, have taken a bigger step toward a “Digital Joint Education System”
KNU 10 Presidents' Council (Chairperson Kim Dong-won, President of Jeonbuk National University) held a meeting at the Ramada Plaza Hotel in Jeju and discussed the university's current issues, including the signing of the 'KNU 10' distance learning credit exchange agreement. This conference was hosted by Jeju National University (President Kim Eel-hwan).
At the conference, the presidents of the 10 National Universities decided to continue close cooperation on all matters such as the exchange of credits for distance learning based on KNU10 and the development of joint contents.
In addition, the establishment of an integrated new LMS (Learning Management System) for KNU10 shared education was discussed as an as an agenda for developing such a digital coalition education system.
The council has been working on developing a KNU10 integrated LMS that complements the problems of the existing KNU9 LMS used for remote class credit exchange. The system will have been established by this year. The pilot services will be provided from the spring semester in 2023, and it is scheduled to start full-scale credit exchange for distance classes in the second half of the year.
At the meeting, a plan, which promotes the payment of national scholarships to graduate students in order to convert of national universities to research-oriented universities, was also explored. There was a consensus that a national scholarship should be provided for graduate students of national universities like the undergraduate students in order to make a new breakthrough in attracting graduate students who have reached the limit of recruitment due to a decrease in the school-age population and the number of undergraduate admissions.
To this end, the council plans to come up with measures to prepare legal and institutional arrangements through a discussion process.
