Industry-academic agreement with IOPs Co., Ltd. to foster human resources in the space industry

The Department of Physics of the College of Natural Sciences at JNU (Head of department, Woo Jong-kwan) and IOPs Co., Ltd. (CEO Kim Young-wook hereinafter referred to as IOPs) signed an industry-academia cooperation agreement at JNU to nurture professional technicians in the space industry.
Through the agreement, the two institutions agreed to △operate curriculum related to the space industry, △cooperate with each other in utilizing facilities of both institutions, △share and promote information, △provide talent recruitment and field training, △support industrial technology, and △participate in industry-academic cooperation projects together.
IOPs Co., Ltd. was recently established by privatizing satellite control and operation at the Aerospace Research Institute, a public research institute. The company controls and operates a number of satellites at a number of satellite control centers on the Korean Peninsula. The company provides professional operating services such as multi-purpose satellites 7A, next-generation mid-sized satellites No. 3, No. 4, No. 5, 4 SAR satellite, electrical and electronic testing and development of electronic equipment, multi-purpose practical satellite (Arirang No. 2, No. 3, No. 5), geostationary complex satellite (Chullian) 1, 2A, 2B), the next-generation medium-sized satellite No. 1, and Korea's first lunar exploration satellite, Danuri. Currently, with the establishment and completion of the National Satellite Integrated Operation Center in Deokcheon-ri, Gujwa-eup, Jeju Special Self-Governing Province, IOPs has expanded its business area nationwide.
IOPs said, “The space industry has great growth potential recently, so IOPs will be able to provide great potential for each university, research workers, and students.” adding that "Physics students at JNU have already been hired during the semester to prepare for training, and additional employment of physics students are expected in the future."
