Kim Eel-hwan, President of Jeju National University, Emphasizing ‘2023, the Year of Securing JNU Competitiveness’

President Kim Eel-hwan at Jeju National University pledged to “make 2023 a year of securing JNU competitiveness through change and innovation” at the kick-off meeting for the year of 2023.

JNU held the 2023 kick-off ceremony on the 2nd of January. In his New Year’s address, President Kim said, “Based on enhanced higher education finances, change and innovation are essential in order for JUN not only to be a base for balanced national development but also to faithfully fulfill its central role in nurturing local talents. Therefore, JNU will concentrate its capabilities through the process of constant deliberation and discussion with its members.

In particular, he stressed the need to foster talents in three key areas; new and renewable energy, smart tourism, and bio-convergence, which is linked to the future industry in Jeju by attracting △Local Government-University Cooperation-Based Regional Innovation Project (RIS Project) that JNU is focusing on. In addition, he presented key tasks for change and innovation, such as △ Innovation of the academic system in accordance with the flow of digital education △Rational university administration based on data and △Improvement of the welfare of university members.

Furthermore, Kim requested the active participation of members for the successful implementation of the '2031 JNU Mid-to-Long-term Development Plan', such as △Performing a role as a base of industry-university cooperation through the completion of the new building of the Industry-University Cooperation, △Promotion of JNU College of Education's relocation to the Ara Campus. President Kim Eel-hwan asked JNU members to gather the wisdom of ‘MyeonkyeongManri (with very accurate and excellent observation and judgment) and the strength of all members for the development of JNU for the future together and a leap toward newness. He also emphasized that he would do his best with acting after careful consideration.
