All-out efforts to secure the budget for the RIS project in cooperation with JNU & Jeju Province brought fruitful results.

제주대, 제주도와 손잡고 RIS사업 예산확보 총력 ‘결실’

 

As Jeju National University and Jeju Special Self-Governing Province’s efforts to secure the national budget for the ‘local government-university cooperation-based regional innovation project (RIS project)’ (hereinafter ‘RIS’ project’) brought fruitful results, increasing in the new project budget for the 2023 RIS project has been confirmed. As a result, the possibility of attracting the project has been further increased.

 

 

The RIS project builds a regional innovation platform in which various entities such as local governments, universities, and companies participate. In addition, it is a project to realize a virtuous cycle structure for regional development that leads to local talent development and employment and entrepreneurship through innovation in the education and research system of universities. In the case of attracting this project, the Jeju region will receive investment from the state for a total of KRW214.5 billion, KRW42.9 billion (From Korean government KRW 30 billion, & Jeju provincial budget KRW 12.9 billion) annually for 5 years from 2023.

 

 

JNU evaluated the achievement of securing the national budget as the fruit of all-out efforts to increase the possibility of attracting projects in Jeju by targeting the National Assembly and central government agencies through cooperation with Jeju Island and local innovation organizations.

In addition, as the project cost was confirmed in 2023, JNU and Jeju Provincial Government selected key areas through JNU curriculum and a comprehensive analysis of future industrial fields in Jeju. Moreover, the two organizations have begun full-fledged project preparations for expanding institutions participating in regional innovation platforms and establishing a cooperative system.

 

JNU President Kim Eel-hwan said, "With the attraction of the RIS project, JNU will make more efforts to take the Jeju region to the next level. by achieving substantial results, such as the development of local industries centered on universities, improving settlement conditions through youth employment and expansion of start-ups."
