Jeju National University and the Jeju Special Self-Governing Provincial Office of Education held a launching ceremony for the policy council for the development of elementary, middle, and high education in Jeju on the 20th of December.
This policy council is recorded as the first example of policy governance of national universities and local education administrative agencies for the development of local education. This council plans to discuss various local education issues through regular meetings in the future.
JNU President Kim Eel-hwan and Jeju Provincial Superintendent Kim Kwang-soo participated as co-chairs of this council. Following the inauguration ceremony of the council, the first regular meeting was held, in which the heads of departments, directors, and chiefs from both organizations participated. At this meeting, plans for joint cooperation for revitalizing the high school credit system and participation in the regional innovation project (RIS project) based on cooperation between local governments and universities were discussed.
President Kim said, "“Cooperation between the two institutions is important for Jeju National University to nurture excellent talents produced through the elementary, and secondary courses in Jeju to future talents essential to the local industry.” In addition, Superintendent Kim Kwang-soo said, "It is difficult to predict what kind of talent will be needed in society and the region in the future. So a new agenda for local education should be established through the professional manpower and knowledge possessed by Jeju National University.'
