Professor Koh Young-sang’s Research Team at JNU Clarified the Mechanism of Immunity Suppression by Fine Dust Exposure 

고영상 교수 연구팀, 미세먼지 노출에 의한 면역저해 기전 규명

For the first time, JNU research team led by Professor Koh Young-sang (Medicine and Microbiology) at the College of Medicine has identified the mechanism of suppression of host immunity by exposure to fine dust.

This study investigated that exposure to fine dust, an air pollutant, can cause a weakening of host immunity by inhibiting the signaling activation of Toll-like receptor, the host innate immune receptor.

The results of this research were published in ‘Ecotoxicology and Environmental Safety’ (Impact factor: 7.129, top 6.91% of JCR in toxicology).

Arooj Madeeha (Department of Medicine), JNU doctoral student, is the first author of this study and Prof. Hyun Chang-lim, Prof. Kang Hee-kyoung, and Prof. Hyun Jin-won at College of Medicine participated as co-authors.
