The cradle of student growth, a university that creates new values

JNU, the New Supervision Institution for the Initial Startup Package.

JNU was selected as the "new supervision institution for the initial start-up package in 2023" organized by the Ministry of SMEs and Startups and the Korea Startup Promotion Agency, which is organized by the Ministry of SMEs and Startups and the Korea Startup Promotion Agency. In this project, 20 institutions nationwide were selected, and Jeju National University, which was selected as the new organizer, will receive a total of 10.6 billion won over four years (KRW 10 billion in national treasury and KRW 600 million in local expenses in Jeju Special Self-Governing Province).

 

 

Through this project, JNU plans to provide support of up to KRW 100 million per company, which is in possession of promising technologies and business items within three years of founding, mainly in the Jeju region. In addition, JNU is going to support companies such as prototype production, demonstration, market development, and initial investment attraction. In particular, it is also planning to secure an annual investment of KRW 500 million from venture capitalists (VCs) in the four major regions of Seoul, Daejeon, Busan, and Gwangju to promote direct investment in promising start-ups.

 

 

JNU’s President Kim Eel-hwan said, "JNU plans to build a sustainable start-up ecosystem in Jeju and play a central role in the start-up support network through the selection of JNU’s initial start-up package project.", adding that "JNU plans to establish a joint technology start-up support system for four universities in Jeju (Jeju National University, Jeju Halla University, Jeju International University, and Jeju Tourism University) and creates a regional start-up ecosystem all over Jeju-si and Seogwipo-si."
