Honorary Doctorate in Literature to Seo Myeong-sook, Jeju Olle Chairperson

Jeju National University awarded an honorary doctorate in literature to Seo Myung-sook, Jeju Olle Chairperson at JNU’s Ara Convention Hall on the 2nd of February.
JNU announced, "Ms. Seo introduced Jejueo and Jeju's independent culture through Jeju Olle, and wrote and lectured on Jeju's life and culture, creating an opportunity for Koreans and travelers visiting Jeju in order to rediscover Jejudo Island. In addition, her effort made a great contribution to promoting the revitalization of Jeju's history and culture. Moreover, she received the honorary doctorate in literature in recognition of her achievements as a representative of new talent and leadership for the young students. “
President Kim Eel-hwan said, "As the leading role who changed people's perception and behavior through Jeju Olle trail, Chairmperson Seo pioneered a humanities path centered on people, nature, history and culture. It reminded us once again of the precious values and the meaning of healing that the path holds."
Seo, a former journalist and the leader of "Ole Syndrome," graduated from Shinseong Girls' High School in Jeju and Korea University's Department of Education.
Starting with her work as a publishing executive at the Christian Social Affairs Research Institute in 1980, she worked as a monthly magazine <Madang>, <Hangugin> reporter, and a weekly magazine <Sisa Journal> reporter, and worked as a freelance writer for the head of the press and editor. In addition, after serving as the editor-in-chief of the Internet newspaper <Oh My News>, she is currently serving as the chairperson of the Jeju Olle.
In recognition of her contributions, Seo received numerous awards, including the Presidential Commendation for Regional Industrial Development and the Korea YWCA Korean Female Leader Award.
