Kakao Co., Ltd., KRW 320 Million in Scholarships over 16 Years of IT Talents at JNU

Kakao Co., Ltd. (CEO Hong Eun-taek), a participating company in JNU’s Creative Convergence Engineering Talent Support Project Kakao Track, delivered KRW 20 million in scholarships to 20 students from the Department of Computer Science and Education at JNU on the 20th of February. Kakao has contributed KRW 320 million in scholarships for students majoring in computer science and computer education at JNU over the past 16 years.

 

 

‘KakaoTrack’ is an industry-customized education jointly operated by Kakao Co., Ltd., the Computer Engineering Major (supervising) and the Computer Education Department (participating) at JNU. The goal of this project is to nurture human resources centered on the demand that companies need. Kakao Co., Ltd. has been operating ‘Kakao Track’ for 16 years since signing an industry-academic agreement with JNU in 2007, while providing scholarships and participating in various educational programs.

 

 

Kakao Track is aiming for high-quality lectures tailored to companies centered on industries. Accordingly, executives and staff members of Kakao Co., Ltd. are teaching two or more major courses at JNU every semester as track adjunct professors. In addition, with mentoring and field training with Kakao executives and staff members, selecting track-participating students, and operating internship programs, the education from the field computer software experts is considered as a representative example of industry-academic cooperation programs in Korea.

 

As a result, 138 students have graduated from Kakao Track so far. Among these students, the average employment rate in IT companies reached 80.4%, and the average employment rate in Kakao and major IT companies reached 26.8%.

 

 

Lee Jae-seung, Director of Kakao's Jeju Cooperation Team, said, "Jeju’s excellent IT talents trained through Kakao Track are proving Kakao Track's achievements by getting employed by Kakao and domestic IT companies.“, adding, “Kakao and Jeju National University will actively cooperate to foster computer software talents in Jeju and enhance the local IT industry through the Kakao Track Phase 3 project.”
