The Ara Overseas Volunteer Group from JNU College of Veterinary Medicine (Head Prof. Yun Young-min) successfully carried out its annual animal treatment volunteer activities in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, during the summer vacation in 2025. Launched in 2014, this volunteer program marks its 12th year and has made significant contributions to the development and exchange of veterinary medicine in Mongolia.

Including faculty members, veterinarians (graduate students), and undergraduate students, a total of 29 participants took part in the eight-day program held from July 14 to 21. The group was divided into two teams: a Companion Animal Team and a Livestock Animal Team. During Mongolia's Naadam Festival, they provided medical treatment to injured or sick horses, and also visited four animal shelters in Ulaanbaatar to offer disease treatment and preventive care for abandoned animals.

The Livestock Animal Team, led by Professor Jeong Hyo-hoon, and the Companion Animal Team, led by Professor Yun Young-min, visited livestock farms, horse hospitals, and equine holding facilities to conduct collaborative treatments and training with Mongolian veterinarians using diagnostic equipment. At the animal shelters, they carried out health checkups, neutering surgeries, disease treatments, and provided deworming support for the animals.

Expressing gratitude to the volunteer members for their dedication and support, JNU professor Son Won-geun, veterinary bacteriology specialist who has participated in the program annually, said, “As a result of 12 years of continuous volunteer work, a companion animal hospital has been established at the Mongolian College of Veterinary Medicine, and equine medical care in Mongolia has become more advanced. These efforts have opened up new opportunities for academic exchange in veterinary medicine between our two countries.”
