JNU Medical Herb Garden Opening Ceremony

JNU (President Kim Eel-hwan) held the opening ceremony for the JNU Medical Herb Garden on July 10. Around 100 guests attended the event, including JNU President Kim Eel-hwan, Lee Sang-ho, Head of the Medical Herb Garden, members of the JNU Board of Education and Board of Trustees, the Head of the National Institute of Biological Resources; the President of the Korean Pharmaceutical University’s Herb Garden Council, the Head of the Bio-Industry Team of the Jeju Provincial Government, as well as representatives from related industries, faculty members, and students from within and outside Jeju.
The ceremony was hosted by Ko Jae-yoon, Dean of the College of Pharmacy and head of the 4th Administrative Office. The program included guest introductions, an opening speech by Lee Sang-ho, a progress report by Professor Bae Ji-young of the College of Pharmacy, and a welcoming address by President Kim Eel-hwan.
Appreciation plaques were awarded to individuals who contributed to the creation of the herb garden: Park Geun-hyo, CEO of Jeju Space Architects Office; Lee Kyu-cheon, CEO of Heungwon L&S; and Park Dae-yang, CEO of the Korea Pharmaceutical Botanical Garden.
The JNU Medical Herb Garden was established to support the conservation and utilization of Jeju Island’s native biological resources. It also aims to foster human resource development and promote collaboration with related industries, aligning with the 8th policy pledge of the Jeju Provincial Government.
The main functions of the Medical Herb Garden include: △Securing and classifying native plant resources from Jeju △Exploring their potential as alternative herbal medicines △Conducting quality control research on herbal remedies △Operating educational programs on Jeju herbal medicines △Providing research and training facilities for students majoring in medicinal plants.
