Kim Seong-hun, a third-year Tourism Management student at JNU, lives with physical discomfort caused by acquired polio. However, he has never accepted his disability as a limitation. Instead, he continues to expand his possibilities by consistently challenging himself to overcome it.
After taking food and beverage courses in the Department of Tourism Management at JNU, Kim developed a strong interest in coffee. Through repeated practice and dedication, he proudly obtained a barista certificate issued by the Korea Food and Beverage Education Association. According to the judges, he received outstanding scores in both technical and sensory evaluations.
Professor Lee Sang-mook of the Department of Tourism Management at JNU said, “Kim Seong-hun was able to obtain his barista certificate thanks to his unrelenting passion, sincerity, and tireless effort, never once complaining about his physical challenges.”
For Kim, earning the barista certificate is more than just a personal achievement—it’s a springboard for greater dreams. He is now preparing to apply for a government administrative position for persons with disabilities. He believes that the experience and values he gained through this challenge will be instrumental in designing and implementing policies that better support people with disabilities.
Kim’s journey continues to inspire and encourage others, showing that dreams can be pursued and realized regardless of physical limitations.
