JNU Tamna Culture Research Institute (Director Kim Chi-wan) published Tamna Culture and Academic General Book 32, ‘The Histoy of Tamna Dynasty by Theme’.
Tamna grew into a nation by creating its own civilization. It had not only interacted with Samhan, Gaya, Baekje, Silla, Tang, and Japan, but also with Wang Geon Goryeo as an independent country. The book depicts the difficult journey of Tamna’s history from the story that Tamna Dynasty became a county of Goryeo during King Sukjong of Goryeo, to the story that the titles of "Lord" and "Prince" were deleted in the early Joseon Dynasty.
As an independent country, Tamna's history was not included in the history of states in the Korean Peninsula (including the Goryeo Dynasty), at least before the dispatch of officials in King Uijong of Goryeo. In addition, even in the 21st year of King Chungnyeol, when General Kim Tong-jeong's Sambyulcho surrendered to Goryeo, Tamna did not belong to Goryeo's history. Even after that, Tamna used to resist integration into the Goryeo Dynasty.
Tamna Culture and Academic Book 32, ‘The Histoy of Tamna Dynasty by Theme’, contains the insight of historians based on this historical perception. The book can draw interest in the history and culture of Jeju at a time when only Seoul and the metropolitan area are expanding.
