JNU (President Kim Eel-hwan) held an opening ceremony for the Industry-Academia Cooperation Center on the 9th of June, with 400 participants, including the other universities in Jeju, related organizations, and JNU members.
The center has been built to establish the industry-academic cooperation cluster that promotes mutual growth between JNU and local companies. The center was planned internally in 2018 and was completed in January 2023 at a total cost of KRW 18.3 billion. It was built with a total floor area of 7,123,34m2 with one basement floor to four floors above ground.
The first floor is equipped with exhibition spaces, a cafeteria, information research rooms, and education & seminar rooms in order to facilitate the exchange of information among JNU members both on and off campus. On the second and fourth floors, departments related to industry-academic cooperation, including the Industry-Academic Cooperation Group, moved in to establish information and infrastructure for university-academic cooperation.
The event included an opening speech, a progress report on the project, presentation of appreciation plaque to institutions that participated in the construction (construction by Guryong Construction Co., Ltd., design by Hak Architecture), and a facility tour. As the first event to commemorate the opening, JNU LINC 3.0 Project Team held a presentation of the results of the capstone design, sharing the achievements of the JNU industry-academia cooperation activities.
JNU President Kim Eel-hwan expressed gratitude to those who contributed to the establishment of the Industry-Academia Cooperation Center and said, "Starting with this opening ceremony, JNU will serve as the role of a hub for research and industry-academia cooperation that symbiotically coexists with the regional industrial ecosystem based on cooperation with the local community in the future."
