Faculty members and students in College of Nursing, JNU had health volunteer activities for merchants in Jeju traditional markets.

On Aug. 21, the College of Nursing held a launching ceremony for the "Health Management Volunteer Group in Jeju Traditional Market" which consisted of more than 100 members including professors and students. The volunteer group conducted health volunteer activities at Dongmun Traditional Market and Seogwipo Olle Market until Aug. 22.

The volunteer activity began in 2011 with the aim of contributing to the health promotion of the vulnerable in Jeju. It is celebrating its 12th anniversary this year. Since 2018, this volunteer activity has been expanding not only to merchants of traditional markets in Jeju-si but also to those in Seogwipo.

During the service period, volunteers checked blood pressure and blood sugar for merchants at Dongmun Traditional Market, Dongmun Public Market, Dongmun Fish Market, and Maeil Olle Market in Seogwipo. In addition, they provided education to prevent and manage chronic diseases such as high blood pressure, cerebrovascular disease, diabetes, osteoarthritis, metabolic syndrome, and depression.

Dean Choi Su-young said, "Through this volunteer work, participating students will be able to contribute to not only enhancing their pride and mission as prospective nurses but also creating a healthy community." adding, "Furthermore, as members of Korea NU10, students are expected to have an opportunity to coexist and develop with Jeju.“
