Ko Choo-wol, KRW 61 Million to JNU Scholarship Fund

On Sept. 21, Go Choo-wol, the Chairperson of Wolja Packaging Co., Ltd, provided KRW 61 million to 14 JNU students, including Lee Yeon-joo, from the Department of Tourism Management.
Mr. Lee Chang-heon, the CEO of the company presented the scholarship on behalf of Mrs. Ko. Then he also donated KRW 10 million to JNU development fund.
Established in 1984, Wolja Packaging Co., Ltd, is the company that operates an eco-friendly recycling system while collecting waste paper generated in Jeju, producing the raw material of corrugated carboard, and manufacturing packaging boxes using the stencil paper. The company established Wolja Paper Co., Ltd., which produces its own packaging raw materials that had to be imported from other regions before 1996. The two companies are contributing to strengthening the competitiveness of the community industry by providing cheap packaging boxes to community farmers.
Chairperson Koh is a representative female entrepreneur in Jeju who personally practiced "Noblesse Oblige" by returning corporate profits to society while contributing to regional economic development and job creation by establishing Wolja Packaging, Wolja Paper, and Green Resources. She received an honorary doctoral degree in business administration from JNU in 2014, and JNU built a bust on the campus in 2015 to honor her outstanding contributions.
In addition, Ko has won the various awards for various contributions, including the Presidential Commendation, the Kim Man Deok Volunteer Service Award, the Social Welfare Joint Fund's Annual Honor Award, and recognition as one of Korea's top female businessperson in the field of women's economic empowerment.
Since 2008, she has contributed a total of KRW 1.23 billion as a development fund to JNU which has greatly helped improve school facilities and foster young generations. Since 2015, she has provided KRW 475 million in scholarships, benefiting a total of 95 students.
