JNU announced that ‘Jeju Natural Pharmaceutical Research Center’(Jeju NPRC) has been selected for the "2023 Priority Research Institute Program in the Field of Science and Engineering," a joint project of the Ministry of Education and the National Research Foundation of Korea(NRF).

The Program is the university-focused research institute support project that supports the infrastructure of university-affiliated research institutes in order to establish research hubs at universities, which is essential for strengthening university research capabilities and fostering excellent research personnel.

With the research under the theme of "Natural-Based Fine Dust Response Skin Disease Control Strategy," the Center (Director Hyun Jin-won) will receive a total of approximately KRW 8.3 billion subsidies from the government, Jeju National University, JNU Hospital and Jeju Special Self-Governing Province over the next nine years.

The Jeju NPRC aims to foster research personnel in the field of medicine and bioscience based on natural substances in Jeju, through collaboration with the green/red bio sectors, which are key tasks of the "Jeju Bio-industry Promotion Strategy (June 2023)", which is expected to enhance cooperation with related Jeju local industries.

JNU President Kim Eel-hwan said, "The attraction of this program is a great achievement that has been recognized for JNU research capabilities. In the future, JNU will actively support the development of related industries in Jeju as well as fostering human resources in the specialized field of JNU. “
