Kang Young-eun, a second-year student majoring in wind and string music at JNU College of Art and Design's Department of Music (Academic Adviser, Hur Dae-sik), became the first Korean to win the 2023 Thailand International Percussion Festival Competition held in Bangkok, Thailand.

The Thailand International Percussion Festival Competition was established in 2019. Kang participated in the Category A solo category, open to ages 18 and older, and won the title with not only the highest score in the preliminaries but also high scores in all categories.

The judges commented, “Kang’s music is technically complete and he inspires the audience through performances from the heart.“

The music department stated that his award has been the result of verifying the musical skills of JNU music department and raising the status of JNU.
