Enclian Co., Ltd., a startup affiliated with the JNU Plasma Research Lab, received an encouragement award in the ‘2023 Hyundai Construction Technology Competition’.

The competition, which began in 2008 as the first of its kind among Korea construction companies, is celebrating its 16th year as a prestigious event in this year.

The technology selected this time is the "Regenerative Energy-Linked Bio-Gas Utilization CO₂-Free Clean Hydrogen Production Technology." This involves the technology generating extremely high-temperature thermal plasma of several thousand degrees or more, which is impossible with conventional methods. It also produces hydrogen without carbon dioxide emissions from biogas generated from organic waste resources. The Turquoise Hydrogen method developed by the company requires only one-third of the energy compared to the green hydrogen method that electrolyzes water, and has the advantage of utilizing naturally generated gases in the livestock industry and food disposal process.

In particular, the selected technology not only generates plasma through electricity but also produces high-storage hydrogen simultaneously, which addresses one of the biggest obstacles to expanding the use of carbon-neutral energy sources, namely, the issue of surplus electricity. It is gaining attention as a solution to enhance flexibility in the power grid.
