Professor Choi Kwang-sik of JNU's Marine Life Science major received the 'Lifetime Achievement Award' at the Autumn Conference of The Oceanological Society of Korea, held at the Kim Dae-jung Convention Center in Gwangju on November 13.
Established in 1966, The Oceanological Society of Korea is a leading academic organization dedicated to advancing oceanography, enhancing marine knowledge, and promoting the development and conservation of marine resources. It actively fosters academic exchange among researchers through its major academic journals: the Ocean Science Journal (OSJ), an SCIE-indexed publication, and The Sea, Journal of the Korean Society of Oceanography, an official journal of the Korea Research Foundation.
The 'Lifetime Achievement Award,' established in 2008, is bestowed upon members who have demonstrated outstanding academic achievements throughout their careers, with candidates recommended and verified by the society's awards committee. The Society specifically lauded Professor Choi's extensive contributions to research on the marine environment and marine life along Korea's coast, including Jeju Island, evidenced by over 180 SCIE-indexed papers.
