18 Scholars Ranked Among World's Top 2%
JNU (President Kim Eel-hwan) announced that 18 of its researchers have been recognized as 'World's Top 2% Scientists.' This prestigious list is compiled and published annually by Elsevier, an academic research publishing and information analysis company, in collaboration with Professor John P.A. Ioannidis of Stanford University.
The 'World's Top 2% Scientists' list identifies scholars globally who have published at least five papers across 22 main subject fields and 174 sub-fields. Their research impact, based on data from Scopus (the world's largest academic database), is evaluated both over their entire career and specifically for the past year.
This year, a total of 18 JNU researchers were selected among the world's top 2%. Researchers whose contracts were terminated or who retired as of October 2025 were excluded from consideration.
Among the 18 selected, 15 researchers were repeat honorees from 2024. Of these, seven were simultaneously recognized in both evaluation categories (impact over entire career and for the past year).
JNU President Kim Eel-hwan said, "This achievement demonstrates Jeju National University researchers' world-class capabilities across various fields, including engineering, marine sciences, medicine, and biotechnology.", adding, "JNU will continue to identify and implement policies to strengthen our researchers' capabilities, fostering excellent research outcomes across an even wider array of fields."
