JNU hosted a ceremony to declare ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) management at an auditorium in the College of Social Sciences on June 3. JNU members, including students, professors, and staff, attended the event.
The declaration of the ESG management practice statement was recited together by the JNU president, the chairperson of a faculty, the president of the student council, and the president of the public officials' workplace council, signifying the commitment of all JNU members to work together responsibly in practicing ESG management.
The ceremony was organized to disseminate the ESG management strategy established in May to all JNU members.
The event proceeded in the following order: Part 1: ESG management expert special lecture, and Part 2: ▲ESG management strategy announcement ▲ESG management practice declaration statement reading ▲ESG management declaration performance ▲ESG activity photo exhibition viewing.
As one of the KNU (Korean National Universities) 10, JNU has been striving to implement ESG management through initiatives such as ▲managing greenhouse gas emissions ▲organizing free lunch sharing events for low-income seniors in the community ▲conducting volunteer activities to enhance the living environment for elderly individuals living alone and ▲ensuring the transparent operation of the university's top decision-making body.
JNU plans to develop three strategic directions and nine strategic tasks with the vision of becoming a 'leading ESG management university that creates sustainable value'. Based on this, it also intends to establish a detailed action plan to set up an ESG management system and enhance its implementation.
Furthermore, JNU plans to continue managing ESG matters by identifying and scrutinizing detailed ESG management tasks through the establishment of the ESG Committee directly under the JNU President.
During the ceremony, JNU President Kim Eel-hwan stated, “JNU will share its vision with students, faculty, and the local community, and will strive to be one of the KNU 10 by innovating environmental, social, and governance structures.”
