JNU Central Library has launched the ‘Jeju Memory’ service to preserve the historical value of Jeju newspapers and utilize them as fundamental data for academic research.

‘Jeju Memory’ is a project aimed at digitizing and providing access to Jeju Shinmun and Jeju Ilbo, the major newspapers in Jeju. The digitized articles span from 1962 to 1999. Through this initiative, various information regarding Jeju's historical events, culture, and prominent figures can be readily accessed for various academic studies. Additionally, Halla Ilbo, Jemin Ilbo, Jeju Shinbo, and Seogwipo Shinmun will be sequentially included by the end of 2024.

In the future, JNU Library plans to expand the scope of the service to encompass e-books from the inaugural issues of literary magazines (394 volumes) published by elementary, middle, and high schools, as well as village magazines (91) in Jeju.

JNU's ‘Jeju Memory’ will be a valuable resource, particularly for researchers and students engaged in Jeju studies. Access to the service is currently limited to JNU, and all content is provided in strict compliance with copyright laws.

Detailed access methods and usage guidelines for Jeju Memory can be found on the JNU Central Library website Collection.

Through the Jeju Memory project, JNU aims to facilitate access to its academic approach to Jeju's regional history and contribute to the preservation and development of Jeju's local culture.
