Injured Fairy pitta rescued and released to nature

야생동물구조센터 “번식 위해 제주 찾았다 부상” Animal Center rescued the injured bird and released to nature
Jeju National University Jeju Wild Animal Rescue Center (Yoon Young Min, Director) rescued the fairy pitta (Pitta brachyura) injured when it tried to fly through a house window in Jocheon Village earlier this month (September 17, 2020). The rehabilitated, healthy bird was released to nature last Sunday (September 27, 2020).
The summer migratory bird ran into the near fatal injury while trying to find her nest. After a week of injury treatment and sustained respiratory oxygen influx, the healthy bird was released into Jeju Extension Forest located in Seogwipo.
Fairy pitta migrates to Jeju/Korea for reproduction during May and flies back to the South East Asia by early October.
Fairy pitta is 18 cm in body length, characteristically colorfully decorated. Because of its rarity and the IUCN’s VU designated near extinct species, it is registered as a national monument #204. Scientific name for the bird: Pitta brachyura nympha TEMMINCK & SCHLEGEL.
