The Jeju institutional tripartite: Korea International Exchange Foundation (Lee Geun, Chairman)-Jeju National University (Song Seok-Eon, President)-Jeju International Free City Development Center (Moon Dae Rim, Chairman), has been conducting an Intensive Korean language education program for 21 teachers from 5 different countries in order to meet the increasing needs for Korean language teachers in the New Southern and Northern Hemispheric regions for five months from September 7, 2020, through February 4, 2021.

Participating the language education program are 21 Korean language instructors and Korean Language specialists from Russia, Indonesia, Vietnam, Thailand and India.

The program has been in progress under the untact measures vs. COVI-19 pandemic. Once the viral spread is successfully suppressed, normal teaching conditions (contact teaching) will be restored.

The participants have been undertaking three main subjects in the program, △ Advanced Korean language, △ Special lectures in Korean studies, and △ Teaching methods of Korean language. They will also engage in exchange program and project site (JDC) visitation.

The tripartite sponsors of the education program expect the program to satisfactorily meet the needs for the Korean language teachers who are in high demand in the New Southern and Northern hemispheric regions.

The international education program is particularly significant for Jeju as it commemorates the 15th anniversary of the “World Peace Island” designation.

All the participants were isolated in a JNU dormitory room as COVID-19 pandemic measures upon their arrival in Jeju from abroad.
