JNU education program lauded for superior implementation

Jeju National University (Song Seok-Eon, President) was cited for its successful policy “JNU regional community networking for public participation in solving societal problems” as An exemplary case of the 2020 education area’s administrative reform,” it was announced earlier this week (October 19, 2020).

Ten exemplary cited came from 2 Ministry of Education cases, 5 city and provincial cases, and 3 national universities. JNU was singled out among the three national flagship universities.

The JNU education reform case was based on finding regional society and its needs for community problem/solution.

To earn the distinction, the JNU focused on forming problem study groups including industry-academy cooperative discussion group and technology society project and its discussion group.

A typical case revolved around the handling of excess agricultural products and their developmental research to use the regional produces for fresh convenience food.

As the result of the convenience food development, 15 research teams and 14 discussion groups operated the projects with 90 local industries participating. The project was successful in luring a societal problem/solution grant of 19.3 billion krw from the government funding agencies.

President Song promised to continue the successful policy for national and regional co-development efforts that the public is willing to support.

The 10 exemplary cases picked by the governmental evaluations will be posted on the online platform “Gwanghwamoon1st.go.kr” during October 20~27 for public to vote on 3 best cases. The online contest is sponsored by the Ministry of Security and Public Administration.
