JNU (President Kim Eel-hwan) has been officially certified by the International Baccalaureate Organization (IBO) to offer the IB Educator Certificates (IBEC) program. This certification marks a significant milestone for JNU in enhancing the diversity of education in Jeju.

The International Baccalaureate (IB) is an internationally accredited school education program developed and operated by a non-profit education foundation based in Geneva, Switzerland. The IBEC program is a curriculum that fosters the self-directed growth of learners through critical thinking and international understanding. Since late last year, JNU has worked closely with the Jeju Provincial Office of Education and IB schools to achieve IBEC certification. This certification is a testament to JNU’s dedicated efforts.

JNU’s Graduate School of Education will run the IBEC course, covering IB PYP (elementary school), MYP (middle school), and DP (high school). This program will offer teachers in-depth learning opportunities that blend theory with practice. Professional lecturers and professors with extensive IB education experience are expected to enhance the quality of education provided.

The IBEC course will be available as both a regular master's course and a one-year research course at the Global Teacher’s Training Center within JNU’s Graduate School of Education (Head: Professor Kwon Sang-cheol). The program aims to elevate the professionalism of IB education by fostering teachers' international awareness and teaching capabilities through rigorous quality management and collaboration with educational institutions.

Moreover, JNU aims to expand the understanding and application of IB education among current and prospective teachers. By incorporating various teaching and learning methods in the field, JNU seeks to boost the educational capacity of the Jeju community as a whole.
