JNU Prof. Koh Young-sang (Department of microbiology, College of Medcine) and his research team at Jeju Natural Pharmaceutical Research Center (Jeju NPRC) have identified the role of Toll-like receptor 13 (TLR13) in suppressing colon cancer for the first time.
This study suggests that the host innate immune receptor, TLR13, plays a potential protective role in maintaining intestinal homeostasis and regulating the development of colon cancer. Thus, this provides novel translational insights into preventing colon cancer development through TLR13-mediated signaling.
The results of the study were published in the International Journal of Cancer (Impact factor: 5.7, top 16.6% of JCR in oncology).
With the support of the Ministry of Science and ICT's mid-sized research and the Jeju NPRC designated by Korean Ministry of Education, the research was conducted by Rafik Asma, a Ph.D. student at JNU, as the first author, and Hyun Chang-lim (JNU College of Medicine) and Park Young-jun (JNU College of Pharmacy) as co-authors.
