Forestry Service establishes “tree diagnosis center”
The Jeju National University College of Life and Natural Resource Sciences (Chun Yong Cheol, Dean) announced today that a “Tree Diagnosis Center” for developing the disease treatment technology and its applications.
The center is a project administered by the Forestry Bureau National Tree Clinic (Lee Sang Hyun, Director). Currently, Ganwon, Chungbuk, Chungnam, Chonbuk, Sunchon, Kyungpook, and Gyeonsang and Seoul National Universities each operates a center.
The Jeju center is particularly interested in pine wilt, cherry tree witches'-broom, phytoplasma and tree diseases prominent in and around Mt Halla and Jeju Island.
In establishing the Jeju center, Jeju’s subtropical environment and climate changes played an important role, making it differentiated from other centers around the country.
Professor Kim said that the center plans to offer a variety of services including treatment of tree diseases of subtropical origin and to work with private sector tree clinic services in Jeju.
