JNU-UNESCO Jeju Association agree to boost natural and basic sciences development

Jeju National University's Institute of Basic Science (Director Kim Myung-sook) and the Jeju Association under the Korean National Commission for UNESCO (Chairman Lee Sun-hwa) announced on Tuesday (March 2) that they signed a business agreement at Jeju National University on Feb. 26.

Under the agreement, the two organizations decided to cooperate in the fields of science, education, culture and information sharing; exchange human resources for the development of talented researchers in basic science; promote collaborative projects such as workshops and seminars to conserve Jeju’s natural and cultural heritage, restore the island’s clean natural environment, and enhance the academic value of local natural and cultural heritage sites.

Jeju National University's Institute of Basic Science operates an autonomous research support project group for the purpose of establishing an integrated platform for local environmental conservation to lay a cornerstone for the nation’s science and technology and vitalize research in the related fields.

The Institute of Basic Science and the UNESCO Jeju Association will take the latest agreement as an opportunity to create a science-friendly environment for Jeju residents, while cooperating in implementing the United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
