Graduate school award ceremony for excellent research for the first half of year 2020

 

 

Jeju National University (Song Seok-eon, President) on Feb. 25 held the Graduate School Award Ceremony for Excellent Research for the First Half of Year 2020 to honor students who have conducted excellent research, promoted a desirable atmosphere for research, and enhanced the school’s research competitiveness.

 

Award winners were selected based on the Achievement Mileage for Graduate Students, which assesses a student’s performance in accordance with such criteria as submitted research papers, participation in academic seminars, patent scores, etc.

 

Grand Award winners at the master’s level were Natarajaphylai Kishantini (Marine Life Science, College of Ocean Sciences) and Jang Ji-won (Physics, College of Natural Sciences). Grand Award winners in the doctoral course were Kwon Hyeok-jae (Marine Life Science, College of Ocean Sciences) and Mariafan Bimal Kumar (Mechatronics Engineering, College of Engineering).

 

Excellency Award winners at the master’s level were Nagahawata Dinnes Framudisa (Marine Life Science, College of Ocean Sciences) and Jeong Yoon-sang (Ocean System Engineering, College of Ocean Sciences). Excellency Award winners in the doctoral course were Ko Ji-young (Chinese Language & Literature, College of Humanities), Jang Mo-na (Tourism Development, College of Economics & Commerce), Ilangdarage Menu Nilaka Molagoda (Marine Life Science, College of Ocean Sciences), and Maria Joseph Raz Nirmal Frasant (Mechatronics Engineering, College of Engineering).

 

With the graduation ceremony being canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic, a smaller event was held to confer degrees to representative students from master’s and doctoral courses. A doctoral degree was awarded to Ahn Mi-hwa (Fashion & Textiles, College of Natural Sciences) and a master’s degree was awarded to (Sociology, College of Humanities).

 

Ji Young-heun, dean of the graduate school, stated, “The Graduate School Award for Excellent Research lays the foundation for the enhancement of research competitiveness and spreads an atmosphere for spontaneous and favorable research.” He also said “the award will continue to exist and expand to honor more students who have exhibited excellent academic performances.”
