Major in architectural engineering rated as ‘first class’ by industry

Jeju National University’s Major in Architectural Engineering, an undergraduate program of the university’s Faculty of Architecture, has been selected as one of the best programs by the construction industry.
The Korean Council for University Education (KCUE) on Wednesday (Feb. 24) announced the results of last year’s Industrial Accreditation, a key state-led university accreditation program of the Republic of Korea.
The KCUE evaluated 81 departments of 53 applicant universities with departments related to architecture and machinery.
According to the results, Jeju National University’s Major in Architectural Engineering has been rated as “first class” along with 11 of the other 41 applicants in the field of architecture, standing shoulder to shoulder with Chung-Ang University and other top-rated institutions.
The KCUE’s Industrial Accreditation system evaluates whether universities orient desirable improvements in their curricula by reflecting industrial requests as well as whether they sufficiently support the education of talented individuals to satisfy industrial requirements. Starting in 2008, the accreditation program has advanced by passing through three phases and is now in Phase 4. Jeju National University has earned the first-class accreditation each year since 2016.
The latest round of accreditations was carried out by university evaluation specialists as well as executives and staff members of 20 companies, including Samsung C&T Corporation, Hyundai Development Company, Daewoo Engineering & Construction, Lotte Engineering & Construction, Construction Association of Korea, Ssangyong Motor Company, Young Il Industrial Corporation, Korea Mold & Plastic, FM Solution, KM Engineering, and Hanon Systems.
The key evaluation criteria largely consist of three categories: the designing of industry-based educational courses (30%), the operation of the educational courses (50%), and the performance outcomes of the educational courses (20%).
