Award ceremony for BK-honor award held

Jeju National University held the JNU BK-Honor Award on Wednesday (March 10) to recognize conspicuous research capabilities of post-graduate students in the state-led BK21 program.
The university organized the award to motivate and encourage the students who joined the Phase 4 BK21 program.
The winners of the award include Kim Jeong-hwa (academic advisor: Choi Gwang-sik) and Lee Hyo-geun (academic advisor: Jeon Yoo-jin) of the Bio-Fisheries Industry Research Team; Shin Hyeon (academic advisor: Kim Il-hwan) and Kesavan Danashaker (academic advisor: Kim Sang-jae) of the Jeju Energy Business Advancement Research Team; Min Yoon-hee (academic advisor: Son Yeong-ok) of the Biohealth and Innovative New Medicine Research Team; and Park So-yeong (academic advisor: Kim Min-cheol) of the Data Science Research Team.
The criteria for awarding excellent researchers reflect the “performance mileage,” the aggregated scores each post-graduate student earns based on the quality of research outcomes, number of research articles released, frequency of attending academic conferences, and records of patent applications. The winners are granted the JNU presidential prize and the A level scholarship.
According to Jee Youngheun, the dean of the JNU Graduate School, the Phase 4 BK21 program is a cornerstone for the university’s research-oriented growth. Jee stated during the award ceremony that the graduate courses will employ a diversity of measures to build an environment that could help strengthen the competitiveness of postgraduate students.
Last year, the JNU was designated to operate five large-scale education and research teams in implementing the Phase 4 BK21 program. For the seven-year term, the research teams will receive funds, amounting to 1.67 billion won for research team operation and 6.3 billion won for university innovation.
